Twelve kilometres along the river

The route starts at the old pier and follows the right bank downstream. The path is flat and dry most of the way, with one muddy stretch after the pine grove.

Halfway there is a small ferry that runs on the hour. On the far bank a heron stood in the shallows the whole time I ate lunch, ignoring me completely.

Take water, a warm layer for the crossing, and a little patience for the ferry.
